Indonesia: Festival for a Sustainable Future

In early August, The Mosintuwu Institute hosted the Mosintuwu Festival 2, bringing together 250 women, young people, and children from villages across Poso Regency, Indonesia

Under the inspiring theme “Poso Earth Park” (Taman Bumi Poso), the festival celebrated and raised awareness about the region's extraordinary biodiversity, geological diversity, and vibrant cultural traditions.

The event kicked off with an Earth Garden carnival featuring 20 schools showcasing:

-Stunning painting and photo exhibitions

-Mini museums highlighting local biodiversity and geology

-Exciting inter-school competitions centered on the Earth Garden theme

-Lively cultural arts performances, especially traditional dance and music

The festival drew an impressive 5,000 visitors to the site, creating a powerful platform for sustainable development after the religious riots in the 1990s and 2000s. It fostered deep collaboration among interfaith communities, strengthened ties between women's groups and youth groups from different religions, and promoted lasting peace and unity.

A key highlight this year was the unprecedented involvement of elementary, junior high, and high schools, marking a meaningful step forward from previous festivals by engaging the younger generation in preserving Poso's natural and cultural heritage.

We are so proud of how our chapter leaders are building a more harmonious, sustainable future for Poso.
